This annual parade happens the Thursday before Thanksgiving week in November each year since 2002.

November 17, 2011 11th Annual Grand Parade of Lights
6 p.m. Downtown Morris (Atlantic Avenue)
Sponsored by the Morris Area Chamber of Commerce participating organizations.

  • "MORRIS, Minn. -- The annual Grand Parade of Lights is Thursday in downtown Morris, beginning at 6 p.m.
    Floats will line up on East 10th Street, and participants are asked to check in at the parking lot by Cenex at 5:30 p.m. A unit number will be issued at that time. Floats should be in place by 5:45 p.m. to avoid last minute traffic congestion.
    The UMM Concert Choir will be singing songs of the season in City Center Mall at 5:15 p.m. Santa will make his first appearance of the season during the parade.
    The parade route will run north to south on Atlantic Avenue again this year and conclude at Pedersen Funeral Home.
    Prizes will be awarded as follows: $50.00 Chamber Cash for the unit with the best light presentation and $50.00 Chamber Cash for the best overall unit.
    For the safety of our spectators, candy may not be thrown from parade units. If you wish to give out candy, please have people walking to hand it out.
    Participants also are asked to not include a Santa character on their floats.
    UMM students will be videotaping the parade to be aired on the access channel at a later date. Holiday music is a great addition to both the parade and the video. "

    "United Farmers and Merchants State Bank and The Morris Vet Center were both winners in this year's Grand Parade of Lights.
    Nearly 40 units participated in the 11th annual parade Thursday night in downtown Morris.
    The bank's float, which was a celebration of its upcoming 100th anniversary, was chosen as the unit with the best light presentation.
    The Vet Center's float, with a Dr. Seuss theme, was named the best overall unit."
